Story ストーリー
Slow fashion
Slow fashion is an old concept, having found a new voice in todays world. The philosophy is set in the use of local materials, judicious use of resources, hand skills and small batch productions. At Indigene, we make a conscious effort to follow these ideologies and keep our products inline with "Slow Fashion". We work with local women communities for our embroideries and stitching, our fabrics are developed and sourced from producers directly. Recycling and re-purposing efforts towards minimizing wastage and a judicious use of resources are a constant exercise at Indigene. We use our scraps to re-create textiles, trims, and other surface techniques. Indigene products are limited, produced in small quantities, available selectively and made by small producers and artisans. Our products are truly artisanal!
Handcrafted product
Handcrafting is an essential part of Indigene. All crafts and techniques have a geographical and cultural relevance, belonging to a certain area and community. Traditional crafts each have a story to tell and a reason for existence. Indigene believes in keeping the essence of this story alive. We work with artisans in their own region, their own ‘comfort zone’— a small effort to keep craft out of urban factories and karkhanas, in their original spaces. Sustainability is about long-term relationships. Indigene continues to work with its first set of partners, artisans and needle-workers, who came on board when it started, even as it expands its network of craftspeople every year. As a label, it’s proud of its long yet ethical supply chain and the many hands involved in producing each garment.
SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS
Sustainability is a part of being socially conscious, it is about long-term relationships. Indigene continues to work with its first set of partners, artisans and needle-workers, who came on board when it started, even as it expands its network of craftspeople every year. As a label, it’s proud of its long yet ethical supply chain and the many hands involved in producing each garment. An organically growing label, Indigene works closely with skilled artisans and local communities (trained) for production. It believes in fair, deep-rooted partnerships, nurtured by constant learning and training.
